There are incredible and varied mountain and hill environments to discover all over the UK. No matter the reason of visiting these unique locations whether personal or other, they provide enormous advantages. This course enables you to boost your self-reliance and have the ability to take a more crucial role in any walks you partake in. Here at Salamander Outdoors we strive to develop your abilities to allow you to feel and be comfortable and secure in the wild locations all over the UK that are truly special and unique.

We will equip you with the abilities necessary to become confident and skills in hill walking in the mountains and hills of the UK, under summer circumstances.
Due to this course consisting of 3 days of hill walking so a appropriate level of physical fitness is required.
Capabilities to navigate using a map, compass and electronic devices
The ability to make informed decisions in the development of practical and feasible route plans
Be able to understand the different weather in the mountains, hills and moorland areas of the UK
Address the emergency and comprehension of the role of the Mountain/Dartmoor rescue
Be able to plan and handle water hazards on the hills
The clothes and equipment to bring and how to use them in the environment
WHAT WILL I NEED?
You will need to supply transport and personal equipment as we only supply instruction for the course. However, your instructor will want to check that your personal equipment is appropriate for the activity. Listed below are the essentials:
Map information – Here at Salamander Outdoors we encourage everyone on our Climb Devon summer navigation and skill courses to have map that covers Dartmoor National Park – OS map OL28 1:25 000 covers that areas we use and is the recommended map for our courses (other scales will be discussed on this course). Please ensure that this is a weather proof active map or have a good map case.
