Is It For Me?
This one-day course is ideal for anyone who has completed the basic navigation course, has previous experience of map reading or who just needs a refresher due to skills fade. This course is a step on from the basic navigation course and will give you confidence to step off the track with the skills to use the compass and geographical features on the ground.

Throughout the day we will cover the skills needed to navigate and walk in adverse weather conditions in the UK mountains.

CONTENT
The group will have no more than 4 max 6 students and 1 instructor in most cases. This training day is based mainly around the practical use of the compass out on the ground.

This day will not only endeavour to grow your skills and confidence in map reading, but it will also develop your ability to use the compass. It will cover throughout the day, taking and following map bearings, walking on a bearing, judging distance on the ground and relating it to the map.

We will also cover other navigational techniques like aiming off, catch features, attach points and how a GPS can be used alongside conventional navigation techniques.

The course starts at 0900 hrs but book in at 0830 hrs for a kit check allowing teaching to start at 0900 hrs. Please ensure you carry and wear the Items on the kit list below. We will have time at the end of the day for feedback and the course will be finished by 5 pm at the latest.

WHAT KIT IS REQUIRED?
For the purpose of the course you will need to supply some Items. We only supply the course instructor and mapping. A kit inspection will be done at the start to ensure all items are fit for the activity.
